What You Can’t Learn from Books

Occasionally I get requests for online versions of Reiki training, and although I believe online courses and electronic media is a most powerful development for easier access to information and training, there are some things that simply can’t replace the experience of live instruction.
One of those would be Reiki training (or any hands-on healing art or bodywork in my experience as both a teacher and a student). Why?
Because, as a teacher in a live classroom experience, I can…
•offer alternative hand positions to those in a book that might work better for a particular student’s hands, as well as for their client’s body.
•work with a student’s body mechanics at the table during class practice, and suggest adjustments in the moment while it’s happening.
•answer questions as they come up in actual class practice when it is relevant.
•supervise and mentor individual practice sessions.
•offer my expertise from actual session experience in private practice.
Also, highly significant is the aspect of support from being in the company of like-minded others and the sharing of the class dynamic of growth and change.
And most importantly is the matrix of knowledge and experience a teacher holds is in the room for a student to tap into consciously or unconsciously. This is especially important where intuition and healing presence are a part of the training such as with the Reiki System.
All of these factors are what makes it possible for those 2-dimensional images on a page to come alive into the 3, 4 and even more dimensional phenomenon of a live class and the shared group experience, and empower students to take what they’ve learned out to the world.
